The 595-mile south-to-north trip is for our most ambitious participants. The route covers almost every region of Illinois. You begin at the Superman statue in Metropolis and wind your way to Winthrop Harbor on the Wisconsin state line.
In 1828, a man with French and Native American ancestry, named Ogee, built a cabin in present day Dixon, and established a ferry there. Two years later, in 1830, John Dixon, from whom the city takes its name, purchased Ogee's claim and interest in the ferry and settled in the area with his family. He called the town Dixon’s Ferry.
